Bucharest Christmas Market opened on November 29 in Universitate Square, on the esplanade next to the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR) headquarters, right across the street from the University. For an entire month, until December 28, visitors can enjoy shopping for handicraft objects made by artisans, traditional costumes, and Christmas decorations. The fair also has a rich offer in hot sarmale, grilled traditional sausages, polenta with sour cream made on the spot, poale îbrâu pies, homemade cakes, mulled wine and țuică.

Last year, the event had 80.000 visitors, a Christmas tree 15 meters high and 65 stands, organizers say. Just as in 2013, the program at the fair includes concerts, from carolls, performances of traditional groups coming from all over the country to the best-known Romanian pop artists. Kids are welcomed at Santa’s Home, where they can paint and draw, accompanied by fairy tale characters such as fairies or elves.

Organizers have set up a humanitarian campaign, so that those who wish to help children in need at Christmas, they can donate toys and books at the Fair.

Entrance at the Bucharest Christmas Market is free. For more details on the event, visit the event page or the official website.
