Ballet works DSCH and The Dream will premiere at the National Opera in Bucharest on December 5th. The event will see Romanian ballerina Alina Cojocaru, a former Principal of The Royal Ballet in London, cast in The Dream.

DSCH is choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, on the music of Dmitri Shostakovich, while The Dream is choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton, on the music of Felix Mendelssohn, based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. For the premiere night, the conductor of the orchestra will be Cristian Sandu.

DSCH was first staged in 2008 with the New York City Ballet, while The Dream premiered in 1964 at the London Opera. The DSCH name comes from a musical motif used by Shostakovich as an allusion to his own name and as a signature.

Tickets for the December 6th and December 16th representations are available at the box office of the Bucharest Opera House and at
