Romania’s northern region of Maramures will once again host the Long Road to the Merry Cemetery festival, highlighting the culture, music and traditions of the area. The event takes place on August 15 and August 16.

Each day of the festival will see workshops dedicated to traditional crafts such as pottery, wood sculpture and wool production, while artists and bands will play the traditional music of the area. Participants will also have the opportunity to sample the local food, all part of the event’s drive to showcase and respect local traditions and the environment. This is why tourists are also encouraged to arrive on site by train and 40 bikes will be available for rent to those interested in exploring the area on two wheels.

Further details on the program of the festival, and accommodation and transport options are available here.
