The rights of sexual minorities and prejudices in today’s society continue to be discussed, for the second year, in the LGBT program at the NexT International Film Festival. The novelty of this year’s edition taking place from April 15 to 19 at Cinema Studio, Elvira Popescu and CinemaPRO in Bucharest, is a new program – Next Is Feminist – a selection of films that shed light on sensitive issues concerning the role and status of women today.
“Next Feminist is not asking the audience to initiate into feminism, just to open towards the recognition of social inequities and problems specific to women, but I would be happy if it would provoke a better understanding of what feminism is.” says critic Irina Trocan, responsible with the selection in the festival, along with Andrei Rus.
Selected or already awarded in festivals, short films at NexT Is Feminist invite to empathy or shed light on sensitive issues concerning the role of women in society. The films in NexT Is Feminist will be screened on Friday, April 17, at Cinema Elvira Popescu. The LGBT section includes six provocative films, all screened on April 15, in Control Club.
Next Film Festival is the most important short film competition in Romania, accompanied by a selection of films, masterclasses and workshops. Created in the memory of two filmmakers, director Cristian Nemescu and sound designer Andrei Toncu, NexT aims to discover new names and perspectives in cinema.
