Lisa Simone, the daughter of Nina Simone, is one of the headliners at this year’s edition of Bucharest Jazz Festival, taking place from September 19th to September 25th in the George Enescu square and at Hanul Gabroveni in Bucharest.
She is joining such artists as the Kenny Werener Trio, Sárosi Péter Azara & Tasi Nóra, Elena Mîndru & Jyväskylä Big Band feat. Tuomas J. Turunen, Bega Blues Band, Dan Ionescu Quartet, Mino Cinelu & Theodosii Spassov or the Trilok Gurtu Quartet.
After serving in the Iraq war, Lisa Simone started her musical career, raising to US recognition for the collaboration with acid-jazz group Liquid Soul. She later debuted as a solo singer on Broadway and won the award for best actress in a musical offered by the National Broadway Theater.
The fifth edition of the festival will bring a mix of contemporary American jazz, modern soul and world music fusion. The new artistic director of the festival is jazz performer Teodora Enache, after musician Lucian Ban ended his three-year mandate.
