Mozaic Jazz Festival, a new jazz festival in Romania opens its first edition on Friday, November 14, in Sibiu. The concept focuses on top artists who made history in jazz or played at the most important festivals of the genre in the world. As a result, the three days of Mozaic has a line-up of six prestigious bands. Check out the program below:
Friday, November 14
20:30 – Nikoletta Szoke Quartet
Nikoletta is one of the great female voices of European jazz and the only female presence at Mozaic Jazz Festival. The Hungarian-born artist is the winner of the most prestigious award of the genre Montreux Jazz Voice Competition. Throughout her career, she developed numerous collaborations with big names in the jazz world of which, perhaps the most notable, with Bobby McFerrin in 2010.
22:30 – Trilok Gurtu Band
Trilok Gurtu is one of the greatest jazz and world music percussionists of all time. Throughout his career of over forty years, he has collaborated with artists such as John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Jan Garbarek, Don Cherry, Bill Evans, Pharoah Sanders, Dave Holland, Zakir Hussain, Neneh Cherry and many others. His band will join him for the festival in Sibiu.
Saturday, November 15
20:30 – David Krakauer „Ancestral Groove”
Classical music, avant-garde improvisation, especially klezmer, are the main ingredients of the show Ancestral Groove with David Krakauer, one of the most versatile clarinetists on the planet.
22:30 – Steve Coleman and Five Elements
One of the emblematic jazz artists worldwide, Steve Coleman brings to Sibiu the band formula with which he started collaborating almost a decade ago and had great success in the most important jazz festivals in the world.
Sunday, November 16
20:30 – Tord Gustavsen Ensemble
With six albums recorded at ECM Records, winner of the Norwegian Grammy Award (Spellemannsprisen) and numerous other awards, Tord Gustavsen is one of the most talented and prolific Norwegian pianists. With music that we find a strong air of Nordic mysticism, Tord Gustavsen Ensemble is one of those bands that make a distinct mark in any festival in smoothness and refinement of the artistic performance.
22:30 – BaLaKo
With roots on several continents, BaLaKo (Balcan Latin Kollective) is the only Romanian jazz project of the festival and most in vogue at the moment. With recent performances in Montreux Jazz Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival, two of the largest and most important jazz festivals in the world, BaLaKo is a band that we will sure hear both nationally and internationally.

The price of a ticket is RON 70 (EUR 15,5) / day and RON 170 (EUR 38) / festival pass. Pupils, students and pensioners benefit of discounts.
