The Night of Museums, the yearly event which sees museums throughout the country open their doors to visitors for one dedicated night, will take place May 21st. Besides Bucharest, museum tours will be organized this year in Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca and Baia Mare, the Romanian cities currently running for the European Capital of Culture 2021 title. The event is organized by the local National Museum Network, a member of the Network of European Museums.

Several new art galleries, informal and creative spaces will join the event this year in Bucharest, including the Romanian Design Week, NOD Makerspace and World Press Photo Romania. Several connected events will also take place: concerts, screenings, mapping, performances, experimental workshops, bicycle tours, quizzes and quests.

The after-party for the Bucharest event will take place at Industria Bumbacului venue.

The tour of the Museums Night is available on the digital storytelling platform izi.TRAVEL.

The first Long Night of Museums took place in the newly re-united Berlin in 1997. In 2005 it spread across Europe as The European Night of Museums. Thousands of museums and cultural institutions in 30 European countries open their doors the same night to welcome millions of Europeans celebrating a night of culture.
