A new production of the Così fan tutte opera will premiere at the Bucharest Opera House on February 27th. It is co-produced together with the Garsington Opera and directed by John Fulljames.
The scenography belongs to Dick Bird and the choreography to Tim Claydon.
Così fan tutte, ossia is an Italian-language opera buffa in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was first performed in 1790, at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte, who also wrote Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni.
The title means “Thus do all [women],” but is usually translated into English as “Women are like that”. The words are sung by the three men in the opera’s second act, just before the finale; this melodic phrase is also quoted in the overture to the opera. The same line was used earlier in Le nozze di Figaro.
Tickets for the event are available at the box office of the Bucharest Opera House and at tickets.operanb.ro.
