Initiated by the Bureau of the Social Attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Sibiu, the Christmas Fair in Sibiu opens this week for the seventh year in a row. The Fair has become known throughout the country after the first edition in 2007, when the city was Europe’s Cultural Capital for that year.

During November 21 and December 26, the Christmas Fair will cover 5.000 sqm of the city center. 65 exhibitors from over 20 counties will open their Christmas cottages in the Großer Ring (the Big Square) on November 21. For a month, visitors can find here thousands of traditional or folk-inspired products, from handmade candles, FiMo Christmas decorations, wrought iron home decorations, fur coats and accessories to toys made of ecological materials. While you’re shopping for gifts, you can enjoy winter delicatessens like skewered fruits dipped in chocolate, pancakes with fruits or delicious products from the Hungarian cuisine.

The first evening will open with a lights and music show, while the rest of the concerts spreading throughout the entire month include carols performed by choirs, traditional groups and pop bands.

Kids are awaited at Santa Claus’ Workshop where they can learn from craftsmen how to make objects using traditional techniques. The workshop will be located in the area in front of the Christmas tree.

Entrance at the fair and its events is free. Check out here the complete program of events and more details on the Christmas Fair in Sibiu on the official website and facebook page.
