The first edition of Art Encounters, an event dedicated to contemporary art, will take place in Timisoara between October 3rd and October 31st. The event, which is meant to open a dialogue between Romanian contemporary art and the current international context, is curated by Rainald Schumacher and Nathalie Hoyos. Well-known Romanian artists, such as Horea Bernea, Ștefan Bertalan, Adrian Ghenie, Ana Lupaș, Alex Mirutziu or Paul Neagu, but also international ones, who make references to the Romanian space in their work, like Saâdane Afif, A Kassen, Rosa Barba, Sophia Hultén, will facilitate this dialogue.
As such, Timisoara will become for a month an impressive art gallery, where more than 100 artists will showcase their works in 17 different locations, among which the Art Museum, the Revolution Memorial, the Synagogue, the Timco Halls or Cazarma U. The various exhibitions will feature previously shown works but also around 30 new ones, created especially for this event. Adrian Ghenie’s installation Darwin’s Room will go on display for the first time in Romania at the event.
