World Press Photo Exhibition is an initiative of the World Press Photo Foundation, founded in 1955 in the Netherlands, acting as independent, non-profit organization, based in Amsterdam. The Foundation work is dedicated to the imposition of high standards in photojournalism and documentary photography worldwide.

World Press Photo competition began in 1955, when 42 photographers from 11 countries have signed more than 300 photos for judging. In 2012, it drew 5,247 participants from 124 countries, who have scored 101 254 photos.

All works submitted to the contest are open to the public through annual exhibition travels around the world, being installed in over 100 locations in over 45 countries, and visited by over 3.5 million people every edition.

Last year, the show was brought back in Bucharest after 18 years of absence, due to the efforts of Eidos Foundation, which also organizes the exhibition this year.

The works will be displayed for the public at Universitatii Square between May 2 and May 26, everyday from 11:00 to 21:00. Entrance fee RON 7.
