Bucharest has plenty foreign exchange offices that you can easily recognize as many have boards outside showing the daily rate. You can also exchange money at all bank offices – check our list of the main banks active in Romania later on in this chapter. When you exchange money, you need an ID, and make sure you receive a receipt. Most exchange offices do not apply commission, but check before making the transaction. You can check daily the BNR official rate to see how it evolves, but exchange offices usually sell or buy at their own rates.
