The Johann Strauss Ensemble, conducted by Russel McGegor, is touring Romania for the 12th year in a row with the Vienna Magic – Christmas Edition concert. The national tour will end in Bucharest, with a concert scheduled for December 21st at Sala Palatului.

The concert covers the music of the Strauss family, with the well-known waltzes, but also new compositions.

The history of the Johann Strauss Ensemble begins in 1985 when it was established by members of the Bruckner Orchester in Linz. Violinist and conductor Russell McGregor joined the ensemble in 2004. Following the tradition of the Strauss concerts in the 19th century, he conducts in the Stehgeiger style, meaning from a soloist position. He has been living in Vienna since 1992 and since 1997 he is a concertmaster and conductor of the Schöbrunn Palace Orchestra. He plays a violin manufactured in 1697 by Carlo Giuseppe Testore.
