Two new concerts of violinist Andre Rieu will take place in Bucharest on June 11 and June 12, starting 20:30, in Constitutiei Square. The artist is a darling of the Romanian public, his last year’s concerts in the country having sold out. He held no less than seven concerts locally in 2015.

Known internationally as the King of Waltz, Rieu will perform together with the Johann Strauss Orchestra. Approaching a repertoire filled with well-known, classical music pieces, Andre Rieu has been a promoter of Romanian culture and traditional music and dances also. He performed alongside Romanian pan flute musician Gheorghe Zamfir and included Romanian pieces into his concerts. He declared solidarity with the Romanian people following the Colectiv nightclub fire and visited the site to pay homage to the victims.

For his work, he has been awarded such honors as the Order of the Netherlands Lion by the Netherlands, the Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France, and the Honorary Medal by his native Province of Limburg.
