The George Enescu Philharmonic is officially opening the 2015-2016 symphonic season on October 1st. The first concert of the season will see a piano performance by Elena Bashkirova (pictured), with the orchestra conducted by Horia Andreescu.

Some of the conductors who will return to the Athenaeum in the first three months of the year are Camil Marinescu, Christian Badea and Vladimir Cosma.

At the same time, a concert dedicated to the work of Romanian composer George Enescu will take place on September 30th. The concert will feature recitals by Romanian sopranos Viorica Cortez and Leontina Vaduva and baritone Florin Estefan.

The Romanian Athenaeum Conferences are also scheduled until the end of 2015, with guests such as French philosopher and writer Alain Finkielkraut, French writer Eric Emmanuel Schmitt or French physicist Gerard Mourou.

The Athenaeum is also continuing its educational events. Grouped under the title Classic is fantastic. How to understand classical music, the series will offer ten concerts during this season, with the first one set for October 18th.
