The ballet company St. Petersburg Classical Ballet of Andrey Batalov will deliver a performance of Thcaikovsky’s The Nutcracker on December 13th at Sala Palatului in Bucharest, starting 19:00.

The St. Petersburg Classical Ballet company was established by Andrei Batalov, a principal soloist of the Mariinski Theater. A graduate of the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Russia, Batalov has been performing on stage for more tan 20 years. In 1992 he became soloist of the Mussorgsky Theater in Sankt – Petersburg, and two years later a first soloist of the Mariinski Theater. His repertoire includes lead roles in productions such as Cavalerie halt, La Sylphide, Le Corsaire, Don Quijote, La Bayadere, Manon, Scheherazade or Romeo and Juliet.

The Saint Petersburg Classical Ballet company gathers more than 50 artists, graduates of the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Russia and of the most prestigious ballet schools in Russia. It includes names such as Yevgeny Ivanchenko (Mariinsky Ballet), Leonid Sarafanov, Oksana Bondareva (Mihailovski Ballet), Alexandra Timofeeva, Evgheni Ivanchenko (Kremlin Ballet), Maria Poliudova,Vladimir Statnii (Ukraine).

The main roles in the performance are held by Maria Poliudova (Clara) and Andrei Batalov/Vladimir Statnii (The Prince).

The Nutcracker has enjoyed great popularity since the late 1960s, and is now performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in North America. Tchaikovsky’s score has become one of his most famous compositions, in particular the pieces featured in the suite.
