Lebanese violinist of Armenian descent Ara Malikian will perform in Bucharest on May 26th, in a show where pieces from his latest album 15 can be heard.
One of the most expressive violinists of his generation, Malikian delivered is first concert at age 12. Today he is an eccentric master, continuously reinterpreting great names, from Bach to Bjork or Radiohead but also the music of Pulp fiction or the Aghelus Dinicu’s Ciocarlia. He assimilates the music of other cultures in the Middle East (Arab and Jewish), Central Europe (gipsy and klezmer), Argentina (tango) and Spain (flamenco) to form a very personal musical language.
He has recorded over 40 discs and has formed his own orchestra. He has taken part in projects for the big screen and has written the sound track for several movies, most notably Pedro Almodovar’s Hable Con Ella and La Mala Educación.
His quality and level as a violinist have been acknowledged in many world renowned competitions, including the Felix Mendelssohn Awards (1987 Berlin, Germany) Pablo Sarasate (1995 Pamplona, Spain), Niccolò Paganini (Genoa, Italy), Zino Francescatti (Marseille, France), Rodolfo Lipizer (Gorizia, Italy), International Music Youth Competition (Belgrade, Serbia), Rameau (Le Mans, France), International Artist Guild (New York, USA). He is a two-time winner at The Music Awards in the categories of Best new music album and Best classical music performer.
Tickets, priced RON 115 to RON 175, are available in the Eventim network and on eventim.ro.
