(P) General Information

The International British School of Bucharest (IBSB) is a UK registered and inspected British School Overseas, offering students aged 3 to 18 years a quality education based on the National Curriculum of England.

The school has an excellent reputation in the local and international community as a school with high academic standards and excellence in education, with graduates regularly accepted into top universities around the world every year, including most recently Cambridge, Yale, UCL, and LSE, to name just a few.

UK Inspection Report: Good-Excellent in all areas

The most recent UK Inspection Report (November, 2014) identifies that all areas of the school programme are Good to Excellent, with excellence identified in areas relating to ‘The quality of pupils’ achievements and their learning, attitudes and skills’  and ‘ The quality of links with parents, carers and others’. For the full report, please visit the school website.

Additional English Support

Additional English Support is available to all students joining IBSB, to ensure that the transition for non-English speakers to an English curriculum is as smooth as possible. Students with little or no English will find that they are using English within a short period of time, with the majority of students returning to a full-time main stream programme within one year or less.

Extracurricular Enrichment

In addition to a rigorous academic programme, IBSB offers students a variety of opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom:

  • Day Trips
  • Residential Trips
  • Guest Visits
  • Club Programme
  • Public Speaking
  • Debating
  • Model United Nations
  • Sporting Opportunities
  • International Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Work Experience
  • University Visits
  • Careers Support Service
  • Community Action Service
  • Life Skills Programme
  • Student Exchange Programmes

Encouraging Student Responsibility

Within the IBSB programme, there are many opportunities for students to take on additional roles of responsibility. Students have the opportunity to join the Student Council to become involved in the school planning process, or to become a Junior of Senior School Prefect, an Academic Mentor to other students, or a House Captain. All students from an early age are involved in public speaking and regularly speak in assembly to ensure that students graduating from IBSB are socially confident.

Community Involvement

One of the core aims of the IBSB programme is developing community spirit and a commitment to community service. Throughout their time at IBSB, students are actively involved in supporting local charities, such as Light into Europe, Speranta pentru Tine, and Sfanta Macrina, through the Community Action Service programme, going out into the community to support those in need, which for many students is a life changing experience.

The school accepts enrolment applications throughout the year, with the opportunity offered for students to experience a day in school before making the decision to enroll. Enrolment for the next academic year is processed in February, with waiting lists for many cases, so it is advised that parents submit their enrolment applications early.
